CO2 EMISSIONS: Switzerland released 43.36 million metric tons of CO2 in the year 2011, and is ranked #68 out of 216 countries. With per capita CO2 emissions of 5.52 metric tons per year, it is in the 3rd quartile globally. Its CO2 intensity (kg per unit GDP 2005 PPP $) is 0.14, which is lower than the average of 0.33 for its income group--the High income: OECD countries. Regarding the trend, the total CO2 emissions have decreased by -4.79% during 2010-11. Over the past five years, the total CO2 emissions has improved by -4.79%, and over the last decade the total CO2 emissions has fallen by -5.55%.

POWER GENERATION: The total net generation for Switzerland in 2011 was 60.18 million Mwh. Power supply from conventional thermal sources accounted for 1.76% of the total. In comparison, renewable sources including hydroelectricity contributed 57.15% of the total. The share of the non-hydro renewable component in the total generation was 4.27%. Finally, nuclear generation contributed 42.17% of the total supply nationally (25.38 million Mwh).
